Mixes From the Heartland Review and Giveaway

I love finding new things to cook for my family.  It seems like a lot of times, we are in a rut as far as what to make for dinner.  This past month has been filled with going out for dinner, perhaps a little too much.  I admit, I really don't like to cook, I am not a whiz in the kitchen by no means.  I like to bake once in a while, especially with my oldest daughter, who loves to bake cookies, brownies and cakes with me.  As far as cooking dinners, it seems like we are always having the same things more out of convenience and price rather than quality.  Trips to the grocery store have become very expensive, sometimes spending $150 a week and seeming to get very little for that cost.  There is a great company by the name of Mixes From the Heartland that can not only solve the rut of cooking the same things over and over, but end up costing you less money to do that in the long run.  They offer a delicious variety of quick and easy meal ideas mixes such as soups, meat loaf mixes, pastas, salads as well as breads, muffins, brownies and dessert bars.  I love the variety of products that Mixes From the Heartland has to offer, with everything they have you'll never feel like your in a rut, there's always something new to try.  I was sent an absolutely wonderful variety of mixes for review that not only taste good, but are so good for you as well.  Here's what I was sent:
*Mexican Style Casserole- I am a HUGE Hamburger Helper lover, for me it is a quick easy and sometimes good meal.  Lately I have been disappointed in how they have changed their recipes into making them a little less flavorful.  After tasting this delicious Mexican Style Casserole, I will be hesitant to go back to Hamburger Helper again.  It is so easy to make and takes the same concept and makes it more flavorful, more yummy and easier to prepare for a full meal for my whole family.  The only ingredients needed is ground beef (I used lean ground chuck), water and 2 cups of salsa.  The pasta and seasonings are already in the package.  When you are finished cooking it, serve with cheese( we used taco blend cheese for extra flavor) and sour cream.  My whole family and I absolutely loved this!  We also had some Multi Grain Tortilla Chips on the side for a little extra added crunch.  My family and I love Mexican food of any kind as long as it has some great flavor and this definitely did NOT disappoint.  This is a great, easy weeknight supper idea. $6.49 for a 1 lb package

*Texas Bean Bake Meal- I absolutely love anything that has to do with chili and especially beans.  Upon looking at this package, I knew that this was going to be good!  Speaking of chili, my sister in law makes the absolute best White Chicken Chili that is out of this world.  This Texas Bean Bake is another great weeknight meal idea that is quick and easy to make even when you are short on time like me.  A couple of pounds of ground beef (once again we used ground chuck), water and ketchup or BBQ sauce is all you need for a tasty and unique meal.  You can also substitute beef broth for a richer tasting dish.  My oldest really loved this, little one is still exploring tastes and flavors so she ate a couple of beans and some of the meat, but it was hubby who couldn't get enough.  He is a chili type of guy and loves all things associated with it.  I think it has a wonderful flavor, not too spicy.  I would definitely make this again for my family.  $6.99 for a 1lb package
*Sweet Corn Casserole- I love corn and anything that has corn in it.  I so look forward to the summer when I can go down to my local Farmer's Market and get several ears of fresh corn on the cob.  My oldest shares my love for this vegetable, but little one won't eat it in any form.  This Sweet Corn Casserole is my absolute favorite of all the mixes received.  The flavor is amazing!  Simple ingredients that you have around your house like eggs, vegetable oil and cream style corn is all that is needed to make this great side dish.  Reminds me a lot of the corn casserole that my sister in law makes for Christmas.  So good, so creamy and a unique texture mixed with the sweetness of the corn makes this a one of a kind dish.  $5.99 for a 2lb package

*Italian Bean Soup- I made this on one of the cold days that we have here and this soup was a big hit with everyone.  Next to Mexican food we love Italian food and this sound has so much flavor going through it.  Water, tomatoes and a crock pot (you may also cook on top of the stove)is all you need to make this hearty and satisfying soup.  It also recommends during the last 10 minutes to either add ham or Italian Sausage (we added smoked sausage).  This was absolutely delicious and a perfect ending to a busy day.  We also had crackers with it as well.  $6.99 for a 1lb package

*Cinnamon Orange Cake- The flavor of orange is one of my favorites and combine that with cinnamon and you have a unique flavor experience.  This cake is so easy to make and what really makes it stand apart from others is the orange juice that you add to the mix.  I frosted it with a vanilla frosting but you may also ice it with Mixes From the Heartland's Orange Flavor Dessert Dip.  Needless to say, this cake did not last long around my house. $5.99 for a 2lb package
