As a part of Global Influence, I am sent important emails from time to time on very important issues that affect us as a whole. I was sent an email last night on a new campaign and wanted to share a very important issue with you.
It's the holiday season and with the holiday season comes get togethers and parties galore. We love to celebrate the holidays with loves ones and friends, and our mailboxes are flooded with invitations. With these parties come food, fellowship, gifts and in many cases festive alcoholic drinks.
In 2008, nearly 12,000 people in the US alone were killed in alcohol impaired driving crashes and during the periods around Christmas and New Years, this number was particularly high with 316 people killed in alcohol-impaired crashes. In 2007, 162,493 women were arrested for DUI, an increase of almost 29% since 1998. You can't help but wonder if lives could have been saved if people thought twice before getting behind the wheel of their cars. With the holidays approaching, it is important to realize the dangers of buzzed driving. Who knows..it could save a life.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)and the Ad Council are asking everyone to drive smart this holiday season and pledge not to drive buzzed. The dangers are very real and especially not to drive buzzed when your children are in the car. Could you imagine getting behind the wheel of your car, your kids in the back seat and you just so happen to get in an accident? Not only do you hurt yourself and the person you crashed into, but your innocent children could be hurt or worse. Is it really worth it? I say absolutely NOT! If you are a blogger and are reading this post, please help spread the word to your readers about these dangers of buzzed driving. If you're not a blogger, help spread the message by taking the keys from your friends or family that have been drinking. Don't get behind the wheel of the car, it's just not worth the risk. Call a cab or stay put and stay safe this holiday season. While at holiday events, it's hard to keep track of a drink here or a drink there-but this can be fatal. Help spread the message and keeps your friends and family safe this holiday season.
Have a safe and happy holidays season and REMEMBER that buzzed drinking is DRUNK driving.
