Happy Earth Day! Today is the 40th anniversary of this special day, but what exactly IS Earth Day? Earth Day is a day to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by US Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach in held on April 22,1970. Earth Day is celebrated in the Spring in the Northern Hemisphere and in the Fall in the Southern Hemisphere. Many communities also celebrate Earth Week, an entire week focused on environmental issues. Ways you can help the earth: use recyclable bags instead on paper or plastic, use organic or natural cleaners, use energy efficient light bulbs throughout your home, and recycle what you can. Every little thing that you do can help our earth be a better place not only for yourself, but for our future generations as well.
I had the opportunity on a couple of occasions to receive some great books from Simon & Schuster's Little Green Books line. Little Green Books are a new series of books that will really get your kids excited about going green. From recycling to replanting, to creating awareness of endangered animals and so much more, Little Green Books plant the seeds for earth-friendly living at an early age. Each book is made from recycled materials and printed with vegetable or soy based inks. This is an absolutely great series for children of all ages. My oldest really loves to read and is very concerned about the environment. She is very active in recycling and loves to help me in this almost on a daily basis. She is always working hard to conserve water and energy around the home as well. When she received these books, she was very excited to read them and learn more about what she could do to help make the earth a better place. We received the following Little Green Books:

These books are absolutely wonderful, colorful and brilliantly illustrated. Each book contains a positive message and really gets kids thinking about what they may have been doing that puts the earth in danger and what they can do to change it. My oldest absolutely loved each and every one of the books and really took something positive out of each one. The little one really loved the Little Panda and Little Monkey books and even though she doesn't quite understand the meanings behind them yet, she will be able to in the future. She has carried her little books around almost everyday and loves to sit down on the floor just to look at them. She has even taken a couple of her sisters Little Green Books just to look at the pictures. I also love how on the back of the books, there is a fact such as "Did you know-a dripping faucet can waste up to three gallons of water a day?" Definitely facts that even I didn't know! These books even feature a list of words and their definitions in the back of the book that kids will run across throughout the story and might otherwise wonder what they mean, I think this is perfect. I am definitely in love with the Little Green Books series from Simon & Schuster because I am learning so much right along with my girls and that makes me feel like a good parent. I can't even begin to tell you how much my oldest daughter has learned from this series of books as well. I can't wait to add more of these great books to my girls' library. These books really teach our children detrimental things that make our earth a better place to live in.
Little Green Books and The Big Green Help have teamed up to bring you books from your favorite Nickleodeon characters.
