I love crackers, they are a really great and quick snack when you are feeling that hunger in the middle of the day. They are delicious with cheese or topped with a little bit of peanut butter. They are especially great by themselves because there are so many varieties out there on the store shelves. Whether you want plain crackers like a saltine or a Townhouse cracker, or some of the yummy flavors that are available such as Rosemary, Onion and Cheese, you can always find something for everyone. I have said it before and I will say it again, I have been on an all natural and organic kick lately. I am trying to better not only my health but the health and well-being of my family as well. Organic products are showing up in every aisle of our local grocery stores. It is amazing to see products like shampoos, cleaners, and all kinds of food turning to organic. These products are so good for you and not treated with pesticides and other chemicals that are found in some other things that you may buy. Crackers are just one of the many things that are going organic. There is a wonderful company called Mary's Gone Crackers, I love the name, and they specialize in great-tasting, organic, wheat free, and gluten free baked goods. I was sent an awesome variety of some of their crackers and snacks in different flavors. I will get to my take on the products in just a little bit but first a little about Mary's Gone Crackers.
Mary's Gone Crackers Inc. is committed to manufacturing the best tasting wheat free and gluten free baked goods using the highest quality, organically grown ingredients. Mary developed the recipes for her products beginning in 1994 when she and her son were diagnosed with gluten intolerance. Their signature product is a delicious and unique cracker made with organic brown rice, organic quinoa, organic flax seeds, and organic sesame seeds.
Mary Waldner is the Chairman and Founder of Mary's Gone Crackers. She is responsible for the product development and brand strategy for the company. Inspired by her own struggles with Celiac Disease she created Mary's Gone Crackers after finding a shortage of nutritious, gluten-free options. Her handcrafted recipe not only became a hit with other Celiac Disease sufferers, but also with consumers eager for delicious snacks they could feel good eating. Mary's Gone Crackers Original was awarded the Sofi Gold Award in 2008 for the most outstanding cracker at New York's Fancy Food Show. It was in 1994 that she discovered that her lifelong battle with pain and fatigue had been her inability to digest gluten-a protein that is found in wheat, barley, rye and most oats. Once she eliminated those grains from her diet, the symptoms disappeared. Having been a creative baker her whole life, Mary started experimenting in the kitchen. She played with alternative rice, corn, garbanzo bean, tapioca, potato starch and potato flours to try and produce her favorite-brownies. She knew she could live without brad, but definitely not brownies! She was able to reproduce brownies and soon pancakes, waffles, muffins and cookies followed. After struggling with going out to eat and parties, she started working on an idea for a base for baked goods using brown rice. She tried this in different forms before going to the cracker. She made these crackers for herself before taking them to restaurants and parties in little bags. She was surprised to see that everyone was eating them and realized she had to make more for others as well as herself.
Soon she was making ovens full, buying lots of resealable bags, and giving away her delicious new crackers. They not only tasted great, but stayed fresh for a long time. The best thing was that there was nothing like this on the market. It was in 2000, that Mary decided that these crackers had to be mass produced. They now have nationwide distribution and are making new fans everyday. Quite a wonderful story!
My Take on Mary's Gone Crackers-
We were able to try several varieties of these tasty snacks including:
*Chipotle and Tomato Sticks and Twigs
*Sea Salt Sticks and Twigs
*Curry Sticks and Twigs
*Original Crackers
*Herb Crackers
*Black Pepper Crackers
*Onion Crackers
*Caraway Crackers
All of these flavors are quite honestly delicious! If I was to pick a favorite it would definitely be the Onion flavored crackers. There is so much flavor packed into each one of these snacks and they are so crispy and crunchy. My oldest and youngest really loved the Sea Salt Sticks and Twigs and just couldn't get enough of them. They are a light and crispy pretzel type snack and of course the girls sure do love their pretzels so I knew they would love these. Hubby was absolutely in love with the Chipolte and Tomato Sticks and Twigs and the Curry Sticks and Twigs as he loves foods more on the spicier side. They were both quite good and I favored the Chipolte and Tomato Sticks as they had just the right amount of spice for me. The Caraway Crackers were delicious as you got the flavor of the caraway seeds mixed with the unmistakable flavor of the organic sesame seeds. The crunch of these snacks is unbelievable and just so delicious. The texture is different from any other snack that I have ever tried. If you take a close look at these snacks, you can actually see all of the ingredients. These crackers are great to serve at a party with cheese and would be good with a variety of dips. My impression of these crackers is that I definitely want more. The Herb Crackers are made with organic herbs and organic garlic and the flavor of these is amazing. The Black Pepper Crackers provide a little kick but are also very good. There is not any of these crackers from Mary's Gone Crackers that we didn't enjoy. These are a perfect snack for the middle afternoon when hunger may attack. You will truly be amazed at how these crackers taste and what they have to offer.
