Sophia's Gourmet Foods Review and Giveaway

Summertime is almost upon us, OK I know Spring just started but warmer weather will be here soon.  With the warmer weather comes grilling, parties out in the backyard and fresh pasta salads and crisp green salad.  I don't know about you, but I love trying new and different sauces, marinades, and dressings.  I never like to stick to one kind of anything, when something new hits the market, I am one of the first among my friends and family to try it.  I was so excited recently to try something delicious different, unique and just plain good.  There is a great site called Sophia's Gourmet Foods and Sophia's specializes in Greek Island dressings, marinades and sauces to compliment a Mediterranean diet, or just to compliment whatever foods you would like to jazz up and make your own.  Sophia's dressings are ALL Natural, and made with 100% Extra Virgin Olive Oil.  They also contain no cholesterol, are gluten-free, low sodium, and calories and absolutely rich in flavor.  I was so lucky to be sent of of each tantilizing flavor of Sophia's dressings for review:
*Sophia's Greek Island Dressing-Original Recipe
*Sophia's Greek Island Dressing with Feta Cheese
*Sophia's Greek Island Dressing with Feta Cheese and Calamata Olives
*Sophia's Greek Island Dressing with Pomegranate
*Sophia's Greek Island Dressing with Blueberry
*Sophia's Greek Island Dressing-Oil Free with Cilantro and Lime

I love the variety of flavors that Sophia's Gourmet Foods has to offer.  They take flavors that you wouldn't think of together and put them in their unique and extremely flavorful products for you to be able to create your own salads, entrees and so much more.  I have to admit, I have never tried much of any kind of Greek or Mediterranean Food.  I once tried a really great Greek salad with olives, feta cheese and a great yogurt dressing, but that is as far as I've gone.  These dressings is absolutely delicious!  We used the Original as a marinade for some chicken that we were baking up in the oven.  This has amazing flavor with fresh olive oil and lemon juice used in the making of this dressing.  The flavor is absolutely amazing, I can't say it enough.  I would love to try this dressing for my own version of a Greek Pasta Salad this summer, I can guaranteee it will be a big hit!  I tried the Blueberry flavor on a fresh tossed green salad with lettuce, cucumbers, blue cheese, croutons and carrots and it was really good.  The balance of Blueberry flavor mixed with the Blue Cheese made for a really unique and one of a kind combination.  The Cilantro and Lime dressing was used as a marinade on some steaks we were grilling and wow what a tasty treat that was!  I love Cilantro, it is one of those versatile spices that can be used in just about anything to enhance flavor.  Mix that with delicious and refreshing lime flavor and you've got yourself an awesome dressing or marinade.  The Pomegranate, Feta Cheese, and Feta Cheese and Calamata Olives which by the way was my fave of all the flavors were all great additions to crisp green salads.  The olive oil and combination of all the flavors provided a nice balance.  I am absolutely in love with Sophia's Greek Island Dressings and can't wait to eat more!

Sophia's Greek Island Salad Dressing are:
*Gluten Free
*All Natural
*Low Sodium
*Low Calorie
*No Cholseterol
*Made With Love

Sophia's has some really great recipes on their site for you to try.  This is definitely NOT just for salads, although it does make a salad stand out on it's own and provided a yummy experience for the senses.  Here are a couple of recipes from the site:

BELL PEPPER SALAD-
Serves 4-6

2 Green Bell Peppers
2 Red Bell Peppers
2 Yellow Bell Peppers
Sophia's Original Greek Island Dressing with Feta Cheese and Calamata Olives

Preheat broiler.  Broil the bell peppers, while turning them frequently until the skins are charred all over.  Rinse the bell peppers under cold water while removing the stem, core, and seeds and slice them into thin strips.  Place them into a serving dish, pour the dressing over them and chill in the refrigerator for 3-4 hours.  Serve at room temperature.

TRADITIONAL GREEK SALAD-
Serves 4

4 tomatoes, quartered
1/2 cucumber sliced
2 tsps. fresh herbs such as oregano, parsley, or basil
7 oz of authentic Greek Feta Cheese
12 Calamata Olives

Sophia's Original Greek Island Dressing
Cut the Feta into cubes 1 inch square.  Put the cucumbers, onions and tomatoes into a salad bowl.  Pour Sophia's Original Greek Island Dressing to taste.  Scatter the feta and olives and toss.  Garnish with herbs.

Castle Baths Spa Products Review and Giveaway

I love girly things like jewelry and especially bath and beauty products.  Lately, I have enjoyed a wide range of spa products like candles, body washes and soaps.  I am really amazed by how many online shops as well as actual stores that carry a wide array of these products.  One such online shop that I found is absolutely amazing and carries a lot of those unique and hard to get natural spa and bath products as well as natural pet products which you don't find a whole lot of.  Castle Baths Spa Products is the special place and I absolutely love what they have to offer.  The great things about the products from Castle Baths Spa Products is that they are handmade and I really love the quality of handmade products.  Unlike processed bath products, you know exactly what is in these products and feel comfortable and safe in using them.  I was sent the following couple of products for review packaged in a nice wicker treasure chest:

*Sweet Dreams Lavender Vanilla Aromatherapy Soap-I positively love this soap!  It has a wonderful scent of lavender with a hint of vanilla.  I have used this soap for almost two weeks and my skin feels so soft and silky.  I love anything lavender and vanilla as you all may know and this soap just intensifies my love for that scent.  Castle Baths Spa Products Sweet Dreams Collection of natural soaps are made to enhance your senses with sweet high altitude Lavender, a hint of vanilla and sweet organic rose buds for mild exfoliation and sweet sensations.  They also add 20% of Certified Organic Hemp Seed Oil and Butter for cell regeneration,25% Certified Shea Butter for purifying and Certified Fair Trade and Certified Organic Olive Oil for skin loving benefits.  This soap is truly a one of a kind experience for the skin as well as for your senses.  I also love that this soap is made from Goat's milk.  I have tried a few Goat's milk soap bars in the past and found that it is very beneficial for the skin.  There is some really great products in the Sweet Dreams Collection including bath salts, body lotion, and body mist.  These great bars of soap are reasonably priced at $6.25 a piece, 3 for $15, or 6 for $27, a great deal!

*Lavender Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub- I have used quite a few body scrubs recently and have found that they work really well.  They thoroughly cleanse your skin, removing dirt, oil and bad cells and make your skin feel really soft and smooth.  I love this particular body scrub from Castle Baths Spa Products because not only is it lavender of course, but it works better than I would have ever imagined.  The huge difference between this one and others that I have used is the sea salt.  Sea Salt and brown sugar scrubs are used to maintain beautiful feet and hands, they exfoliate dead cells and callouses from feet and smooth and repair cuticles.  This body scrub is also made with all natural ingredients such as sea salt, organic shea butter, organic rice bran oil, purified water, chamomile extract, witch hazel, and organic and essential oils.  This Dead Sea Salt Body Scrub also helps lighten age spots and fade stretch marks and scars and is also chemical free with no preservatives added.  I absolutely love using this body scrub and would love to try all of the other sea salt scrubs and soaps in this collection.  $24.95 for a 16 oz jar

Cook In The Kitchen Review and Giveaway

I love to bake tasty treats for my family once in a while.  Sometimes I will branch out like in a couple of weeks and bake cookies for the church function.  There are times that even though I am craving something sweet, I don't have the time to put into making cookies, cakes or breads by scratch.  Some of the store bought mixes work for the most part, but there are some that I have bought that just don't have that homemade or fresh baked taste.  I also really love to make pancakes and waffles for either a Sunday morning breakfast or a weeknight dinner.  Again, some of the store bought mixes leave little to be desired and taste more like mix than fresh made from scratch pancakes or waffles.  Same thing for biscuits.  I absolutely love biscuits, rolls and fresh baked bread, but it takes a lot of work.  The dry mixes work OK, the refrigerated dough works about the best that I have used.  I am not a great cook by any means.  The best part of cooking for me is reading the back of a box of Hamburger Helper or opening up a frozen pizza to throw in the oven.  I found a great site that has a wide variety of products to help a novice like me in the kitchen.  It's called Cook In The Kitchen and they have a selection of products from Pancake and Waffle Mixes to Scones and Muffin Mixes to Gourmet Soup Mixes.  The best part about these mixes is that they are all natural, no artificial ingredients or added preservatives. I was lucky to be sent the following two mixes for review:

*Maple Whole Wheat Pancake and Waffle Mix- I love whole wheat and multi grain products.  We eat a lot of whole wheat breads and pastas and when I saw this mix, I got really excited to be able to try it.  We love pancakes around our house with maple syrup so combining that flavor with whole wheat was sure to make a great stack of pancakes for my family and myself.  This mix was very easy to make, just add water and stir to make a light, flavorful, absolutely delicious pancake.  Of course, we added more maple syrup to the top, but just tasting these pancakes by themselves was a great flavor experience.  Little one sure did love them, but she loves anything that has to do with bread and things she can pick up on her own with her fingers.  The oldest really enjoyed them as well and must have ate about 3 herself.  I know I loved them for sure and hubby really did too.  I was really impressed to how much this package made, it says about 10 serving per 16 oz package and I got about 20 small size pancakes out of it.  I can't wait to try some of the other great flavors of pancake and waffle mixes that Cook In The Kitchen has like Wild Cranberry, True Blueberry, Buttermilk and Apple Spice.  Great price as well at $5.95, you can get them all!

*Buttermilk Country Biscuits- I absolutely love biscuits, they are so versatile and you can do so many things with them.  I made these biscuits to go along with a chicken dinner that I cooked.  I love mixes that are so simple to make and this was definitely easy.  Add water and mix for fresh, homemade tasting biscuits.  Like I said previous, the great difference between this biscuit mix and others is that this Buttermilk Country Biscuit Mix from Cook In the Kitchen is all natural and you can definitely taste that after they are baked.  Fresh, flaky, and absolutely delicious warm out of the oven.  Little one had two, I don't think she could shove them in her mouth fast enough.  The oldest kept telling me "Mom, make sure to give these a good review, they are really good!"  I can't wait to order more of these in the future and make some Strawberry Shortcake, which I haven't had in years.  These biscuits would make a perfect compliment to that are so many other options.  Reasonably priced at $5.95 for a 16 oz package.

Cook In the Kitchen is a family owned business located in White River Junction, Vermont.  Their business started almost 20 years ago with their Pancake and Waffle mixes, then branching out into the Gourmet Quality Soup Mixes.  It eventually grew into a pantry of all natural, easy to use products.  Cook In the Kitchen makes their mixes in small batches with the freshest all natural, preservative free ingredients.  They are committed to making and marketing the only the finest foods for today's discerning consumer.  They are a proud member of the Vermont Specialty Food Association and The Vermont Growers Association.  Their flour-based mixes are certified Kosher and they also offer a line of Gluten-Free soups.  They also offer pure Vermont Maple Syrup in a variety of presentations as well as Unique Gifts for everyone.  They will work with you to customize your own gift box whether it be for yourself or for someone special.  Every selection includes a lovely handwritten gift card at your request.  Order their delicious mixes by the dozen for extra savings!  For more information and to check out the great selection of products that Cook In the Kitchen has to offer, head on over HERE.

GIVEAWAY-
The generous folks at Cook In the Kitchen would love to give one of my very lucky Mommy2TwoGirls readers a Maple Whole Wheat Pancake and Waffle Mix, a Buttermilk Country Biscuit Mix and ONE other mix of their choosing from the Cook In the Kitchen site. (total approx value of prize package $20)

MAIN ENTRY-Mandatory and must be done before any extra entries.  Please make sure that your email address is visible in your comments so that I have a way to contact you if you win.

Friday Follow Topic-Random Thoughts

Welcome to a new edition of Random Thoughts, a great topic for Friday Follow.  I tried doing this a couple of weeks ago and had a lot of fun with it so here we go!

*Tiger Woods is coming back for the Masters, that is pretty cool.  I know he did some really bad things, but I watched his apology a few weeks ago and he SEEMED sincere.  I hope he is.

*That Jesse James is really starting to sound like a tool.  All these women are now starting to come forward, I think at last count there were FOUR?  Poor Sandra Bullock, I always said she was too good for him before they got married.

*It's Spring, finally although here this morning, it definitely feels like a little shot of winter, temp is in the 20's.

* For those of you that watched Survivor Wednesday night, what on earth was Russell doing?  I thought he had lost his mind giving that idol to Parvarti.  Kinda of bummed that James is gone.  He had a bad attitude but I liked him anyway.  At the same time, glad Colby got saved AGAIN!

*American Idol just isn't the same this year.  The talent is well quite bad as we all seen this week with the elimination of Paige, which was bar far the right choice.  I love Michael and Siobhan is getting on my nerves with her screaming.  I am having Adam Lambert flashbacks,, which aren't good.

*Last weekend, we were all excited when our hometown hockey hero, Robin Bouchard scored his 683 career goal and broke a prominent record of becoming the leading goal scorer in Minor Professional Hockey.  My oldest daughter has been a huge fan since she was a baby but has loved Bouchard since she knew who he was at age 2.  For her especially, this was a BIG deal, tonight we will go and see him be honored in front of a sell out crowd.  This is exciting!

*My oldest daughter just seems to get mouthier everyday.  Guess I better watch out, it will probably get worse!

*Glad after two weeks to finally be settled into the new house.  Everything is finally falling into place, but I am still trying to get used to it.  It still doesn't quite feel like home to me yet.

*Yesterday on my way to choir practice, two cars cut me off on the expressway.  Not the time to be angry on your way to church!

*I haven't been feeling too good the past couple of days, must be the change of weather here.  One day it is in the 60's and the next down to the 30's and 40's.  The oldest has been coughing for almost a week.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Chef Shop Review and Giveaway

I love hot dogs, I admit it.  There is nothing that tastes better to me especially in the summertime than 3 or 4 hot dogs cooked either on a charcoal grill or over an open fire on a hot dog stick.  We do this probably a dozen or more times during the summer.  Hot Dogs are such an easy thing to cook when you have a house or a yard full of people and want to keep it relatively simple.  My girls both love hot dogs, especially little one who would eat them every day if you gave them to her.  What is even better on a hot dog?  Why mustard of course!  I have never been a fan of mustard really, couldn't even stand the smell of it at times.  My hubby changed my mind entirely on mustard when he introduced me to Chili Dog Mustard.  This is the absolutely best and so addicting, I had to eat it on every hot dog and going from never eating mustard to eating it all of the time was an acquired taste.  Unfortunately, I can't find that mustard anywhere around me here, but I had a fantastic opportunity to try three very unique and distinctive mustards for review courtesy of ChefShop.comChefShop.com is different from any online store that you may have visited before.  They have a variety of artisan produced sustainable foods and ingredients that are for the foodies of the world.  I was sent the follow mustard for review:
*Blu Cheese Mustard from France- I absolutely love Blue Cheese, it is one of my very favorite cheeses.  Every time we go out for a meal and I have a salad, I have to have Blue Cheese dressing.  I even got my oldest loving it too!  When I received this mustard, I thought that it definitely was a DIFFERENT combination than I have ever heard of before.  Hubby was a little intrigued but a little hesitant as he is the mustard lover in the house.  This was going to be a new flavor experience for me as well, the only mustard that I have ever eaten was the Chili Dog Mustard.  I wasn't even sure how to eat this mustard.  ChefShop.com recommends eating this mustard with red meats, so I figured I would put it on a corned beef sandwich.  I added a slice of sharp cheddar cheese to it as well and boy oh boy, what a tasty sandwich!  This Blu Cheese Mustard is absolutely delicious, flavorful, and tangy.  Hubby really enjoyed this as well probably not as much as me.  I think I have used almost half the jar by myself and am trying to save some so hubby can cook some steaks on the grill.  I can just imagine how good this will taste on top of a steak.  $18.17 for a 7 oz jar.
*Mustard With Peppers- I love peppers too, especially red and green peppers.  My hubby was really waiting to try this one, he has never met a pepper that he doesn't like.  We tried this mustard on some hamburgers that hubby cooked on the indoor grill.  This mustard is extremely flavorful with a slight hint of sweetness and not overpowering.  It was a very nice compliment to the grilled flavor of the burger while provided the little bit of bite that some traditional mustard offer.  Red peppers are naturally sweet and when paired with this French mustard, it provides another unique flavor experience that you really can't find anywhere else.  I really loved this mustard as well and it was definitely hubby's favorite.  $18.17 for a 7 oz. jar.
*Walnut Mustard- This one sounded very intriguing and definitely I had no clue what to use this with.  I cut up some sharp cheddar and mild cheddar cheeses along with crackers and set it up in the kitchen for my hubby and I.  The girls both don't like mustard of any kind, the oldest always wrinkles up her nose at the mention of it.  This Walnut Mustard was definitely different but flavorful.  Walnuts are really good by themselves, but in mustard it turns them into a totally different experience.  This was a really good mustard, perfect with cheese.

I am so amazed by the different products that ChefShop.com has to offer.  Some things I have never heard of and some things I have that sound really good.
ChefShop.com was started in 1999 by a small group of passionate food lovers with a very big mission: To change the way people think and feel about the foods they eat.  They find the very best tasting foods from small farmers and artisans from across the world especially from those growers and craftspeople who see the connection between the way the land is maintained and the quality of food that they produce.  ChefShop.com offers seasonal selections such as fresh fruits, vegetables and fresh Alaskan and Hawaiian seafood.  They also offer a large selection of domestic and imported olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and exotic and hard to find herbs and spices.  Freshness, purity, healthiness, tradition, consistency, knowing the provenance of each product and most importantly flavor are ChefShop.com's criteria.  For more information and to see the wide range of products that ChefShop.com has to offer, please head over HERE.  Make sure to check out the Featured Producer as well as some great recipes using their products.

Lisa Leonard Designs Review and Giveaway

I am absolutely in love with handmade jewelry.  I have seen a lot of online shops lately that offer this, from earrings to rings and especially necklaces.  Hand stamped jewelry is not only fashionable and personal but so beautifully crafted and great to show off.  I have found some really nice online stores that specialize in handmade, hand stamped and hand crafted jewelry.  One such shop is Lisa Leonard Designs.  Lisa is way beyond talented and has been making jewelry since high school.  She has some beautiful custom necklaces, my favorite is the Heartstrings necklace.  It is so cute to have the names of your kids or husband, any names that you want to personalize combined with the beautiful design of little hearts on etched strings.  This necklace looks great for everyday wear and is a great compliment to any outfit.  Lisa Leonard Designs also has an Inspired Collection that contains Friendship necklaces, Sweet Sister necklaces and so much more that would make an absolutely wonderful gift for that someone special in your life.  This jewelry is exquisite and gorgeous in design!  She also has a selection of bracelets, gifts for men, and other gift ideas such as Baby's First Spoon that was recently seen in Pregnancy Magazine.  You really can't go wrong with the selection of things from Lisa Leonard Designs.  I was so thrilled to have found this shop through other blogs that I had been reading.  Everything I read had nothing but praise for Lisa, who is an absolutely nice person, as well as her jewelry and gifts.  I am so impressed with the quality and simplicity of each design.  I am so excited to be able to order a necklace or two from her in the future, I found so many things that I really wanted not only for myself but for my oldest daughter.  I would love to get her a custom necklace with her name on it as well as her sister's name too.  They are really close and I know it would mean a lot to her to have something special like this to wear around the house, out on special occasions and especially to church.  At Lisa Leonard Designs, you are guaranteed to find something that you love too!

Lisa Leonard Designs was started after Lisa had her first son.  She wanted a small business where she could quit her job and stay home with her boys.  At the time, she had never taken any formal classes or formal training in jewelry making.  She just decided to take a chance and jump in!  She began creating her wonderful jewelry and connecting with so many great women along the way.  Her desire was to create simple, lovely pieces that you can wear with a pair of jeans or that little black dress.  She always wanted each piece to be meaningful where you can customize each piece with your kids' names, a special phrase or verse.  Each piece that Lisa Leonard Designs creates is truly a work of art-hand cut, hammered, polished, drilled and most of all assembled with care.  She is truly inspired by other artists-painters, scrapbookers, clothing designers and poets.  Lisa Leonard Designs exists because of moms, grandmothers, sisters, and friends that have shared her designs with each other and through word of mouth.  For more information and to check out the amazing selection that Lisa Leonard Designs has to offer, head over HERE.
