Celebrating Groundhog Day

As we all know in a couple of days is Groundhog Day and we know the legend of Punxsutawney Phil the legendary groundhog that comes out every year on February 2 and either sees his shadow and we get six more weeks of winter, which I for one do NOT want to see this year or he doesn't. Here is a great website to check out for some great information on our favorite little groundhog: Groundhog Day.

This is the only day of the year that we devote to rodents, yes I was shocked to find out that a groundhog is indeed a rodent. This is also a day that we can spend time with our families and not only have fun, but get educated on some of our favorite rodents such as the lovable and oh so adorable Mickey Mouse. Mickey has been a big part of my life since I was a child. I remember watching the Original Mickey Mouse Clubhouse as well as a ton of movies and special cartoons and loved them. My little one now loves to watch the new Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and loves to do the "hot dog" dance. Who can also forget the little mice in Cinderella who made sure that she made it to see her Prince Charming? Without them, Cinderella would have never got her beautiful dress and been able to be with the man she loved. A few others include: Fievel from An American Tale, that cute and cuddly Stuart Little, the possum brothers Eddie and Crash from the Ice Age:The Meltdown movie, Remy from Ratatouille, and Despereaux from The Tale of Despereaux and who could forget Chip and Dale, just to name some. My favorite little rodents for sure would have to be Alvin and the Chipmunks, another set of my favorite characters when I was a kid. I used to not only watch the cartoons and movies, but I had a doll each of Alvin, Simon and Theodore and let me tell you, I carried all three of those dolls around with me all of the time.
Even though our Punxsutawney Phil is the star of the day, we can't forget about some of our favorite and famous rodents on this day. How will you celebrate Groundhog Day this year? Will you do anything different or go on like it's another day? To celebrate the wonder of rodents everywhere, there are many things that you and your family can do together that is fun, educational and exciting to learn about rodents. Try watching that famous movie with Bill Murray entitled Groundhog Day, where he continues to live the same day over and over again. This movie is so funny and would be great to watch together as a family. You could also watch Ratatouille, or Mickey Mouse on the Disney Channel, maybe play a game such as the Alvin and the Chipmunks The Squeakquel game or even take the kids to the theater to see the movie. Check out some great websites online of some of your favorite rodents. The possibilities are endless and you'll be amazed to see not only what you can learn, but how much fun you can have together as a family. So this year, do something different and celebrate the day of rodents. Happy Groundhog Day and here's to Phil not seeing his shadow this year!

Clean Rest Allergy Blocking Bedding Review and Giveaway

There's nothing better at the end of a long, hard, tiring and stressful day for me then climbing into a nice, comfortable and warm bed and getting a good night's rest. I ran across a great company by the name of Clean Rest recently that offers some great products to make sure you get a comfortable night's sleep without having to worry about your allergies due to dust mites, pet dander, pollen, or mold spores. I don't suffer from allergies myself, but there are mornings where I wake up with a stuffed up nose or a runny nose and never thought that it could be all the things that we are sleeping on with our mattress and pillows. Clean Rest very generously sent me a mattress encasement, a box spring encasement and two stuffed pillows. I was excited to get this on our bed seeing all the great things that these products can do to improve the health of not only the bed itself but for us who sleep in it. It took a little wrangling for hubby and I as our mattress and box spring are really heavy, but we managed to get the box spring encasement and mattress encasement on the bed. I love that it completely covers both and zips up so there's no way for anything to get inside. I couldn't wait to get to bed that night so I could see how these encasements worked as well as the pillows. I know when I was putting the pillowcases on the pillows, they felt really soft, I just wanted to plop down on the bed on one of them and go to sleep! Let me tell you, these pillows were nice and comfortable. It has been a little while since we bought new pillows for our bed, so this was a real treat to have. Hubby said he got the best night's sleep in a long time. These pillows are also allergy free and completely block any form of micro-toxins and dust mite infestation from being able to enter the interior of the pillow itself. I also love these pillows because you can get them in Queen or King Size (we were sent Queen size) and these are the biggest pillows we've ever had. We usually buy the standard size, so it felt really good to have a pillow that was not only healthier for us, but one that is big enough to allow us to stretch out a little. I found after sleeping on my bed after about a week with the new mattress and box spring encasements and pillows, I felt better, more restful, and didn't have the stuffy nose and sore throat that I sometimes woke up with in the morning. These products from Clean Rest are a definite must if you suffer from allergies, or even if you don't, you just have the confidence to know that you are protecting yourself against harmful contaminants and getting a healthful, restful sleep all at once. I really love these products from Clean Rest and you will too!

Clean Rest's sole mission is t
o help you get a better night's sleep. They design and manufacture the world's most advanced and medically effective allergy bedding barrier products. The inventor of Clean Rest, Gary Goldberg, is a parent of a child that suffers from nighttime breathing difficulties. He used three generations of his family's textile manufacturing background to develop the solution. The result-a fabric with a weave so tiny no allergen or liquid can penetrate it. It is also so comfortable and breathable, you virtually don't even know it's there. Clean Rest features and advanced technology called MicronOne, which offers the highest level of protection available today. Each square inch of the patented MicronOne fabric contains about 3 billion pores a weave so tiny that moisture can't even get in and micro-toxins can't get to you. It creates a breathable, yet effective barrier between you and what's in your bedding. Clean Rest also provides protection against bed bugs and bed wetting, creating the cleanest and safest sleep environment possible.

Clean Rest offers pillows, ultra allergy blocking pillows, pillow encasements, ultra allergy blocking pillow encasements, travel pillows, travel pillows and blanket set, mattress encasements, ultra allergy blocking mattress encasements, crib encasements, box spring encasements, duvet encasements, and allergy blocking window panels in a variety of colors. Tired Tonight

My goal tonight was trying to get up some more of the reviews that I needed and wanted to get done, but it has been a really long day, so long in fact that my little 16 month old cutie is out for the night. She has had it so that she is asleep on her daddy with her hands up over her face as if to say "I give up". My oldest is in her room playing her Playstation and is the quietest I have seen or heard her in a long time. Thank goodness hubby took us out for a nice dinner tonight so I didn't have to come home and cook. I spent a few hours at my soon-to-be church today helping out with and attending a funeral for one of the members of the church. My heart really goes out to her and her family. She just lost her husband of 63 years last week and I just feel for her so bad. We all know loss and what it feels like, but I just can't imagine being with someone so long as this and for them to be gone, I could just see and feel the heartbreak in her eyes, the feeling of helplessness from me not being able to find the words to say. This day has really affected me and I found as I sat down and tried to write a review tonight, I just couldn't concentrate. It has definitely been a long, hard day, so tonight I am taking the night off from writing reviews and I am going to get some rest and hope that tomorrow is a better day.

Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms Cookbook Review and Giveaway

I love to cook, at times. There are some nights I love to make a great meals for my family like a big pan of lasagna or a chicken, baked potatoes and tossed salad. There are also other times that I want to just pull a box of breaded fish fillets and a bag of Ore Idas out of the freezer. I am not an expert cook by any means and definitely don't claim to be. I have a ton of cookbooks around the house and may crack them open once in a while, but just don;t ever come up with any new ideas. I don't know if it's because I'm afraid to try anything or if I'm just too lazy to try anything. When it comes to cooking, sometimes I just wish I could always cook out of a box or a freezer meal and call it good. Unfortunately, this is not healthy for my family or myself. As you all know, I read A LOT of other blogs and used to enter A LOT of other giveaways before I got really involved in my own blog. I had run across a cookbook that peaked my curiosity and entered several giveaways for it, to no avail. The name of the cookbook was Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms by Jane Doiron. It looked and sounded quite interesting and if we know anything as moms, we are ALWAYS busy in some form or another. Make ahead meals sounds like a great idea. So I contacted Jane who was very gracious to send me a copy of her book. I actually had a little time one night and sat down to look through it and was really impressed with the selection of recipes that were included. From Appetizers to Breakfast and Brunch, Desserts and Main Dishes, there's something in this book for you to make and to get new ideas. Jane also gives you helpful tips for storing and labeling your meals, among many other useful tips. I'm not going to tell you all of the secrets, you'll have to get your own copy! I found so many great recipes in the Make Ahead Meals For Busy Moms book that I will have new meal ideas for quite a while.

Just a few of my favorite recipes in this book would have to be the Sausage Dip because my hubby loves sausage and this sounds fantastic with the two kinds of sausage, two kinds of cheese, ranch dressing and the baked pita chips for dipping. I think this recipe will have to be made for the Super Bowl this year. I love also that each recipe not only gives you the ingredients and cooking directions, but give you the "Day Ahead" directions as well. Strawberry Bread, Pumpkin Coffee Cake, Chicken Parmesan and a divine sounding Hawaiian Cole Slaw are all included in this book along with so much more.

Each of these great recipes in the Make Ahead Meals For Busy Moms Cookbook are individually home tested and selected. They are:
*Simple to prepare
*Simple to assemble ahead of schedule
*Simple to freeze ahead
*Simple for the whole family to enjoy.

Jane's goal was to seek out main dish, family favorite recipes that could me make ahead meals without sacrificing the food's taste and texture by freezing. Make-ahead-meals are a healthy and economical alternative to take out and preservative filled, pre-packaged foods. With make ahead meals, you are making fewer trips to the grocery store and saving money otherwise spent on unhealthy, take out and fast foods.

Inside Make Ahead Meals For Busy Moms, discover:
*Mouth watering appetizers like crab melts, mini bacon quiche and sweet and spicy meatballs.
*Great-start breakfasts such as cranberry scones and make-ahead coffee cake
*Filing mains, sides and soups including Italian restaurant chicken, pork Florentine, healthy broccoli slaw and hearty chili
*Perfect deserts like tiramisu, mini cheesecakes and chocolate torte

Elvis 75-75th Anniversary CD Review and Giveaway

I love music, I am a fan of a lot of different types. I love Country, Jazz, Pop and Rock and Roll amongst others. Some of my favorites include: Alan Jackson, Coldplay, Miles Davis, Michael Jackson and of course the king of Rock and Roll: Elvis. Elvis Presley would have been 75 years old on January 8, 2010. Hard to believe he was taken from is so soon and for that matter that he has been gone for so long. People still head to Graceland every year to celebrate this treasured star and mark each birthday. I of course grew up listening to Elvis, my mom had every one of his records and even as little as I was back then, I really appreciated his music and still do to this day. I remember sitting back with my mother and grandmother and watching one Elvis movie after another, sometimes I still wish I could do that. My favorite Elvis movie is by far Blue Hawaii and I think that is my favorite song as well, although how can you pick ONE song from the vast catalog of music that this great man has? I can just imagine what more we all could have enjoyed from Elvis Presley had he stuck around a little longer.

I recently had the great opportunity to review the Elvis 75 CD that is a celebration of Elvis' 75th Birthday. This a a CD contains 25 Memorable Elvis songs and is definitely a must have for any true Elvis Presley fan. Songs included on this CD:
1.) That's All Right
2.) I Forgot to Remember to Forget
3.) Heartbreak Hotel
4.) Blue Suede Shoes
5.) Hound Dog
6.) Don't Be Cruel
7.) Love Me Tender
8.) Love Me
9.) All Shook Up
10.) Jailhouse Rock
11.) Trouble
12.) It's Now or Never
13.) Are You Lonesome Tonight?
14.) Little Sister
15.) Can't Help Falling In Love
16.) Viva Las Vegas
17.) How Great Thou Art
18.) Guitar Man
19.) If I Can Dream
20.) In The Ghetto
21.) Suspicious Minds
22.) Pork Salad Annie
23.) An American Trilogy
24.) Burning Love
25.) Always On My Mind

Inside this CD there is a wonderful booklet filled with some pictures and biographical information as well as chart data for each one of the songs included. This CD was released to coincide with the King's 75th birthday but if you want more of Elvis and an even bigger selection of songs, a four disc box set featuring 100 classic Elvis tunes called Elvis 75-Good Rockin' Tonight is also available through Amazon.com and Sony Legacy Recordings.

Xtrema Healthy Cookware Review and Giveaway

I love to cook, sometimes I am not the greatest at it and have a hard time coming up with new and exciting dinner ideas. I have had the same set of fry pans since my hubby and I got married almost 15 years ago. I think we might have bought 2 other pans somewhere in between, but a lot of my poor pans are wore out and things tend to stick in them when I'm not careful. I have never heard of healthy cookware before I ran across Xtrema. Xtrema offers a unique line of healthy, green and ceramic cookware that is versatile, durable and able to withstand high heat. Xtrema was generous to send me a 10" Skillet to review. The day I received it, we had a chicken meal planned for dinner and I seen this as the perfect opportunity to take this skillet for a test drive. First of all right off the bat, I noticed that you don't need to turn up the heat real high for this skillet. The recommended use is to put your skillet on your stove and let the pan heat up on medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes, which I did. I added olive oil to the pan to cook the chicken in and in no time that pan was hot and my olive oil sizzling. I really love this skillet because it has a nice even cook, instead of the middle of the pan being really hot and the sides being cool. All of the chicken cooked at the same time, which I haven't had happen in quite a while! This skillet is truly amazing to use and even easier to clean. I love the long handle too, it is long and stays cool to the touch. Another great feature of this Xtrema 10" Skillet is that is is non-scratch. I was reading the cleaning care instructions and it says you could use Soft Scrub and Brillo Pads and it won't scratch the pan. I am excited to try some of the other wonderful products from Xtrema is well. I can tell I will have my skillet to use around my home for a very long time to come.

The nice folks at Xtrema also sent me a 3 piece Tea Set, complete with a really nice ceramic mug, little tea pot and tea mug infuser. Hubby really loved this because he is the HUGE tea drinker in our house and was anxious to try out some of the loose leaf teas that he got for Christmas this year. I think the day we received this, he had about four cups of tea that evening and really enjoyed using the infuser. He said it was really easy to use. He uses the mug almost on a daily basis for his coffee. If he keeps it up, I will have to buy him some new loose leaf teas, because soon he will be out!

Xtrema has the healthiest and most versatile cookware and is definitely healthier than any other cookware, it has documented scientific and laboratory testing to prove it.
Some features and benefits:
*XTREMELY Green- Handmade using natural gas, clay and water.
*XTREMELY High Temperature- Cookware can withstand 2700 F, Steel can melt at 2200 F

Special Valentine's Day Review and Giveaway-Build A Bear Be Mine Dalmatian

Valentine's Day is just around the corner and we're always looking for something new to get the girls. They definitely don't need anymore candy as they are always wound up enough and flowers and kids just don't mix, little one likes to go up and smell flowers and try to eat them. This year, my girls got a very special and early Valentine's Day present courtesy of Build A Bear Workshop. I love Build A Bear Workshop and quite honestly have never gotten the chance to visit one, but I have heard so many great things about it and have checked out their website. My oldest daughter really wanted a Jonas Dog for Christmas, but around here, they were really hard to find. Unfortunately, I don't have a Build A Bear Workshop anywhere near me, the closest being about an hour and a half away. I was so fortunate to get the chance to work with Jayme from Build A Bear and she sent me two gift cards, one for each one of my girls, which in itself was generous enough. As I looked up the nearest Build A Bear Workshop and realized that we didn't have one where I thought we did, I emailed Jayme to see about using my cards and ordering online. She was so nice to ask me what pets I would like and she would order them from her end. That was a couple of days ago and today I received both of the cute and furry friends for my girls.

Little one received the Valentine Be Mine Dalmatian with the Dog Sound. I couldn't get her little friend out of the box fast enough before she was saying "puppy". She was eating, so once I cleaned her up, she grabbed her puppy and hasn't let it go since. This little guy is absolutely adorable in his heart sweater and red collar with a heart on it. I love that there's even cute little red foil hearts inside the heart on the collar. The black spots on the dalmatian are hearts too, so if you love hearts this is definitely for you! Little one's puppy also has a red heart around one of the eyes and a bone that says "Be Mine", it is absolutely adorable. She definitely loved it and I can see it will be her best buddy for a long time to come.

My oldest received the Soft Satin Be Mine Dalmatian. This is so cute in that this animal came with a beautiful red satin dress and red "Be Mine" bone. It lloks just like little one's dog with the exception of the outfit. Of course, the sound on this dog was the Jonas Brothers songs, three of them and when the oldest just got home from school, it didn't take her long to get it out of the box, which I forgot to mention looked liked little houses. I don't think she took her coat off before she went for it. Needless to say, I think both girls enjoyed their new furry puppies, because I don't see them anywhere and the girls are nowhere to be seen!
I love that you can customize your pets and friends with a variety of sounds including roar, giggle, monkey, I Love You, I Carly, Hannah Montana and more. This just makes it more personal and adds that special touch.

Eat Smart Digital Scale Review and Giveaway

I have been working really hard lately to lose weight. Yes, it has been a struggle as it usually is. I have been doing fairly good this time around, but once in a while I slip up, it just means I hard to work out even harder the next day. I have also been keeping track of what I eat, how often I exercise and weigh in weekly. That part has been so much easier for me since I received a wonderful Digital Bathroom Scale from Eat Smart. This company is truly one of a kind as that not only offer a variety of bathroom scales, but kitchen scales as well. The scale I received is ideal, because not only is it accurate but easy to store as well. It has a thin yet sleek design, large 3.5" LCD screen with a Backlight so it's definitely easy to read, 4 high precision sensors so you get a constant and accurate measurement up to 330 lbs or 150kg every time. It shuts off automatically and takes 4 AAA batteries that are included with the scale. I really have used my scale quite a bit since I received it. The bathroom is a perfect place for it to, that way I can not only weight myself without any one else seeing, but I can keep it away from the kids so they don't play with it. The Digital Bathroom Scale from Eat Smart is so easy to use. All you have to do it tap it to get it started, step on, and wait a few seconds and voila, you have your weight! It makes it so much easier for me to be able to track my weight loss, which at this time is exactly what I need. Another great thing about this Digital Bathroom Scale is that it is so affordable, only $28.95 and available through Amazon.com. It comes in silver and black, I received the silver scale for review and not only is it sharp but it works. If you check this scale out on Amazon.com and read the many reviews, you will see a list of satisfied customers and now you can add me to that list as well.
